If you didn’t record it, is it still a run?

What are your favorite physical activities or exercises?

I love running, and try to do it 3 to 4 times a week. I love it because it’s the one activity that stuck, and it’s easy to do at most places. Slap on your sneakers and off you go, out the door and away from everything.

Most of my runs are without music or any other audio, and it’s the only time I really get to be on my own. The only tech I take along is my trusted Garmin watch.

Recently, though, I had the horror of realizing, just as I was about to start pounding the pavements, that my watch was low on juice. Oh boy, do I run the unrecorded run, or run only until the battery dies, or is it not a run if it’s not recorded?

Of course you must run, my brain says to me. People have been running for millennia without a watch to tell them how far they went and what their heart rate was. Rational though that thought is, it remained a mental struggle as I started off on the journey.

It turned out the battery life was long enough to outlast my planned run, but the question still remains, and now I have increased awareness of the charger.
