  • Why do it?

    July 5th, 2022

Every action on a journey should consider what it’s for. If you are hoping to make change which requires a journey, knowing who you serve is critical.

Knowing who you serve clarifies what needs to be done, and allows you to take them on the journey.

You both might not know how the journey will end, but going together will clarify why you do what you do.

  • Constants

    July 1st, 2022

There are some things like time, distance and the like that are always fixed. It helps to ground us, and to create the basis from which we operate.

Such is faith and the principles laid down centuries ago. They act as compasses to navigate life. And it might be costly to simply ignore the collective wisdom of those who came before us.

  • Cause (s)

    June 25th, 2022

When something happens, we feel the need to explain, both to ourselves and to others. The truth is that, there are times when we truly do not know what led to the outcome, or we cannot pinpoint a single cause. And that is ok.

The world is complex, and has many moving parts at all times. When we try to find a single cause, we might be doing so at the expense of truth. And that may not help us if we are the in the same position tomorrow.

So maybe, instead of trying to find the magic bullet, we can try to understand or appreciate the full context. And that is ok, too.

  • Beginning with the end in mind

    June 22nd, 2022

This habit, which I learnt from Steven Covey in his book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, rings true. He teaches us to visualise the future, and establish our own missions.

Without settling in on the end-goal, it becomes difficult to know where one is headed. Therefore, taking the time to clarify your vision and mission is probably the most valuable thing we can do for ourselves right now.

  • Flow

    June 21st, 2022

Sometimes, progress is choppy, but usually only at the start. Once you get going, there is something magical. It seems that you reach that state where things just flow like water down a stream.

This might mean that getting more done is to persist with what you started, and push through the apparent barrier. If you are one of the lucky many, you know this is possible, as you learnt how to walk, speak, write etc., tasks that are so easy now, but where the start was very hard.

It also goes that the faster you want something to flow, the more energy you must invest at the beginning. That is why the start, despite its choppiness, is critical.
